Can Femistina be used by diabetic patients?

Yes. because Femistina does not contain sugars that can interfere with glycemic levels.  D- Mannose is a “d”-sugar and as all d-isomers, it is not absorbed

Can Femistina be used in conjuration with antibiotic treatment?

Yes, for a period of 10 days

Can it be used with other therapy/ies?

When can I expect to see results?

According to the study, we saw a decrease in UTI- recurrences after 1 month of treatment (30 days). This is as prevention of UTI

Can it be used in pregnancy?

Currently, we do not have studies in pregnancy. Please speak to your health care practitioner.

Can it be used by young people?

As per approval from Health Canada, Femistina is 19 years and up.

Is the capsule gluten free?

The capsule for Femistina Plus a is a veggie cap. Thus the capsule does not contain gluten.

What is the capsule made from?

The capsule is Titanium dioxide (TiO2) free veggie cap.

Do you take Femistina Plus with antibiotics?

Yes, because of the externalization of E. Coli.  Femistina Plus allows the antibiotic to be successful on the externalized surface bacteria (antibiotics are poorly effective on internalized E. Coli, that is one of the reasons of resistance).  Only with E. Coli externalization, the antibiotics can really be effective.

What is the treatment period for Femistina Plus?

10 days, 1 white tablet in the morning and 1 yellow tablet at night.

Is there a difference in treatment period with complicated and uncomplicated UTIs?

Femistina Plus should be used for “uncomplicated” UTI only.

What are the contraindications?

None unless for patients/consumers who are allergic to one of Femistina Plus component

What is the source of each ingredient?

(D-mannose, Arbutin, Berberine, Birch and Forskolin).
All active ingredients are of natural origin extracted from their plant.

Are there any side effects?

No. Follow label for Precautions and Warnings.

What age can patients start taking this medication?

Adolescent – 19 years and up, per label.

What is the difference between cranberry products and Femistina Plus?

Cranberry has 1 mechanism of action only (anti-adhesion). Femistina Plus has 3 actions; Fight bacterial adhesion, inhibit internalization, promote externalization

Can patient with allergy to birch can take Femistina Plus?

No

Is there any risk of liver damage with Femistina Plus since herbal medication?

Taking Femistina outside of the recommendation as any other medicine may cause liver damage. Always take medication and supplements as recommended.

Is there any risk on using berberine for patient with insulin problem?

No. In fact some studies have shown that berberine lowered blood sugar levels.

Can Femistina Plus be used in prevention?

Yes, it is its main indication

Can patient take Femistina Plus instead of the antibiotic?

No, unless it is for prevention. We recommend the use of Femistina Plus during the antibiotic treatment.

Can we take the 2 capsules at the same time?

No. The dosing is 1 white capsule in the morning and 1 yellow capsule at night.

Can Femistina treat acute cystitis?

Yes, in association with antibiotics.

How do I know if I have mild or severe UTI?

Patients experiencing MORE THAN 3 episodes a year are considered to have severe recurrent UTI. Please see your HCP if you have severe UTI.

Can men take Femistina?

Yes

Can it be used for catheter associated UTIs?

Yes

How early will I start to see the effect of Femistina?

One month, according to the study data

What’s the rationale for 420 mg of D-mannose?

We do not need to have 2g of D-Mannose because a part of D-Mannose, the same action is made by Arbutin in Uva-Ursi. Vice-versa while Femistina Plus can claim to have a 24h anti-internalization effect (because of d-mannose in the day and arbutin at night), there are no evidence about the lasting effect of 2g of D-Mannose.
