UTI Symptoms
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) can affect different parts of the urinary system, including the bladder, urethra, and kidneys. Symptoms can vary depending on the location of the infection and may not always be present.
Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms
Common UTI symptoms include:
- Pain or burning sensation when urinating
- Frequent urination
- Urgent need to urinate
- Cloudy urine
- Blood in the urine, which may appear red, pink, or cola-colored
- Strong-smelling urine
- Lower abdominal or back pain
- Fever or chills
- Fatigue
- Nausea or vomiting
- In older adults, UTIs can cause mental changes or confusion or severe lethargy

Bladder Infection Symptoms
A bladder infection, also known as cystitis, is a common type of UTI. Symptoms specific to a bladder infection include:
- Pelvic pressure
- Lower belly discomfort
- Frequent and painful urination
- Blood in the urine
Can UTI Symptoms Come and Go?
Yes, UTI symptoms can fluctuate. Some people may experience mild symptoms that seem to resolve on their own, while others may have persistent or worsening symptoms. Even if symptoms improve, it is important to consult a healthcare provider if you suspect a UTI as they usually require treatment.
Why Do My UTI Symptoms Come and Go?
UTI symptoms can fluctuate for a few reasons:
- The body’s immune response may temporarily control the infection, leading to a reduction in symptoms, however, the infection can persist if left untreated.
- Hydration levels can impact symptom severity, drinking plenty of fluids can help to flush out bacteria.
- Bacteria can enter the cells of the bladder lining and replicate, and when these cells degenerate, this can result in the release of bacteria and start a new infection.
- Antibiotic resistance can also be a factor in recurring or persistent symptoms as some bacteria can adapt and become harder to fight.
- Chronic UTIs can be difficult to diagnose because short-term antibiotics may not work, and urine tests do not always show an infection.

How to Relieve UTI Symptoms
Several self-care measures can help relieve UTI symptoms:
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help flush out bacteria
- Rest to support your body’s healing process
- Take over-the-counter pain relievers such as paracetamol to reduce pain and fever
- Abstain from sexual intercourse
- Consult a healthcare professional for evaluation and appropriate treatment
To prevent UTIs and reduce the recurrence of symptoms:
- Wipe from front to back after using the toilet
- Keep the genital area clean and dry
- Empty your bladder frequently and don’t hold your pee
- Pee before and after sex
- Avoid using scented soaps or other irritating products in the genital area
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Wear loose-fitting cotton underwear
- Consider D-mannose supplements
Femistina Plus
Femistina Plus is a supplement designed to help prevent recurrent UTIs by targeting all stages of bacterial infection. It uses a triple-fit mechanism to combat UTIs:
- Inhibits bacterial adhesion using D-Mannose and arbutin
- Inhibits bacterial internalization using berberine and birch
- Promotes bacterial externalization using forskolin, arbutin, berberine, and birch
Femistina Plus comes in two capsules:
- A white capsule for daytime use to fight bacterial adhesion
- A yellow capsule for nighttime use to promote externalization
It is recommended to take Femistina Plus for 10 days consecutively for mild forms, and 30 days consecutively for severe forms of UTIs.
It’s important to see a doctor if you experience UTI symptoms. A healthcare provider can diagnose the infection, prescribe antibiotics if needed, and rule out any underlying conditions. If you have recurrent UTIs, further testing and treatments may be necessary.
